Journal of Al-Tamaddun is an international refereed academic journal published by the Department of Islamic History And Civilization, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. The Journal started with one issue per year, but now it is published biannually from 2012 onward (in June and December). Among of its aims is to be a platform for academicians to contribute and share their research works and writings regarding Islamic history and civilization. Furthermore, it aims to foster excellent research particularly in this area. It is a peer review and open access journal. It publishes articles and research papers pertaining history, civilization, thought, system and development from Islamic perspective in Malay, English and Arabic. The Journal is indexed by Emerging Sources Citation Index, Index Islamicus, EBSCOhost, UlrichsWeb, Open J-Gate, DOAJ, Malaysian Citation Index (MyCITE) and subsequently indexed by Google Scholar.

    CODE OF CONDUCT AND BEST PRACTICE: Journal of Al-Tamaddun subscribes to the standard and principles of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). For further information, please visit the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines HERE.

    All submission to JAT should follow the guidelines as below:
    1. Journal of al-Tamaddun – JAT – It covers multi-disciplinary study of Islam and Muslim, in particular issues related to Islamic history and civilization such as Muslim community and development. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind and submission is via email. JAT is biannual, published by the Department of Islamic History and Civilization, University of Malaya, Malaysia.

    2. All articles, scripts or reviews submitted for consideration to the JAT should have a title page indicating the article title, author’s full name (in the form preferred for publication), and author’s affiliation (including mailing address and email address). JAT prefers that articles submitted be sent electronically in MS Word format to j.tamaddun@gmail.com. Articles submitted in hardcopy by mail must be typed, double-spaced and submitted with cd / pen drive. All manuscripts sent to JAT will not be returned. There is no charge for article processing and submission.

    3. JAT articles generally range between 4,000 and 7,000 words depending on the subject matter.

    4. Abstract in English and in the language of the article is required. Please also provide 5 chosen keywords. JAT prefers footnotes as a referencing system. it requires a complete citation--author, title, place of publication, publisher, and date of publication--upon first use of a source, and an abbreviated form of citation thereafter.

    5. Footnotes references must follow the following format:

        a) Book: Full name of the author(s) (Year), Title of the book (italic), Place of publication: Publishing house, page number. Examples: John L. Esposito (2010), The Future of Islam, New York: Oxford University Press, p. 5 or pp. 3-7.

        b) Journal: Full name of the author(s) (Year), “Title of the article,” Name of the Journal (italic), number or volume and issue, page number. Example: Fadi Alarabi (2009), “Islamicjerusalem: The First Qiblah,” Journal of Islamicjerusalem Studies, Vol. 10, Winter, p. 16 or pp. 2-5. Frederick C. Conybear (1986), “‘Antiochus Strategos’ Account of the Sack of Jerusalem in A.D. 614,” The English Historical Review, Vol. 25, no. 99, p. 503 or pp. 513-516.

        c) Chapter or article in a book: Full name of the author(s) (Year), “Title of the article or chapter,” surname of the author(s) or editor(s) of the book, Name(s) and Initial(s). Title of the book (italic), City: Publisher, page number. Examples: Abdul Aziz Duri (1990), “Jerusalem in the Early Islamic Period: 7th – 11th Century AD,” K. J. in Asali, (ed), Jerusalem in History, Essex: Scorpion Publishing, p. 105 or pp. 126-129.

    6. The article must provide bibliography. Bibliographic references must follow the following format:
        a) Book: Surname of the author(s), Name(s) and Initial(s) (Year), Title of the book (italic), Place of publication: Publishing house. Examples: Esposito, John L. (1996), The Future of Islam, New York: Oxford University Press.

        b) Journal: Surnames of the author(s), Name(s) and Initial(s) (Year), “Title of the article,” Name of the Journal (italic), number or volume and issue, pages comprising the article within the journal. Example: Alarabi, Fadi (2009), “Islamicjerusalem: The First Qiblah,” Journal of Islamicjerusalem Studies, Vol. 10, Winter, 1-26. Conybear, Frederick C.
