Malaysian Journal of Democracy and Election Studies (MJoDES) is a multidisciplinary journal published once a year by the University of Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (UMcedel). Contributions of manuscripts based on original research are invited from scholars working in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Manuscripts should not exceed 8000 words but of no less than 5000 words including notes and references.

    Manuscripts might be also submitted online to umcedel@um.edu.my or umcedel@gmail.com. Articles are accepted for consideration for publication on the understanding that they are not under review for possible publication elsewhere. All manuscripts submitted to MJoDE would not be returned to authors unless an official letter is issued upon request. Any manuscripts which do not follow the guidelines will not be considered for publication. MJoDE makes no representations or warranties whatsoever as to the accuracy, completeness or suitability of any views expressed in this publication and those views are sole responsibility of the authors.

  • Typescript
    Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced on one side of an A4-sized paper with 2.5cm margin on all sides. The text of the manuscript should be in Times Roman, 12 points. The manuscript should be preceded by a title page containing the author’s name, affiliation, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address, abstract, keywords and the main text.

  • Language
    Manuscripts submitted to the journal may be written in either the English Language or Bahasa Melayu.

  • Length
    Manuscript should not exceed 8000 words but of no less than 5000 words including notes and references.

  • Abstract
    Each manuscript requires two abstracts of which to be written in English and Bahasa Melayu of not more than 200 words. Please also indicate a few keywords.

    Headings Ranks and Format
  • Paragraphs
    Avoid too much paragraphs. Papers contain one to four headings; all aligned at the left hand margin and should appear as the following format:

    THIS IS A FIRST LEVEL HEADING
  • First level headings should be typed in capitals and in bold print. First level headings should be aligned left on separate line. The first text line that follows should also be aligned left.
  • This is a second level heading. Second level headings are aligned left in a separate line. Only the first letter and proper nouns should be in capital letters. The first text line that follows should also be aligned left.
  • This is a third level heading. Third level headings should be in italics and aligned left. The text follows on the same line.

    NOTES AND REFERENCES
    Note and reference must use the Harvard Referencing System.

    1. End Notes: They are superscripted in texts and referred to the reference list. Example:

  • Book: Fukuyama, F 2006, The end of history and the last man, New York, Free Press.

    TABLES AND FIGURES
  • Tables and figures should be separated from the text and fit with the page size. They must be numbered consecutively and continue with a short description of each panel and the symbols used. Every table and figure must be submitted separately on different page. The source at the end of the caption, e.g. Source: Jones et al. 2001.

    OFFPRINTS
  • Each contributor will receive two complimentary copies of the issue in which his/her manuscript appears.

    BOOK REVIEWS
  • Books for reviews should be submitted to the Chief Editor.
