Primary Health Care (PHC) service is one of the front-line services for health in Malaysia. Studies on patient’s
satisfaction to health care services are important components that measure the health outcomes and quality of care.
Considering this view, a cross sectional study was conducted in a rural community in Sarawak, Malaysia involving 1018
respondents. One division each of the three regions in Sarawak was chosen randomly. Subsequently, four districts were
randomly chosen from each division. The data were collected by face to face interview using an interviewer
administered questionnaire. Analysis found that the mean (SD) age for the respondents was 36.61 (13.30) years with
minimum of 18 years and maximum of 79 years old. The highest percentage of the respondents had a secondary level
of education of (47.7%) and most of them were currently working at gainful jobs (64.8%). About two-thirds (65.8%) of
the respondents lived in rural areas and among them 86.8% preferred to attend government health care facilities.
Generally, the respondents were satisfied with Primary Health Care (PHC) service with mean score (SD) of satisfaction
3.90 (0.35). A binary logistic regression analysis with forward conditional model indicated that gender, occupation and
treatment preference appeared to be important predictors for level of satisfaction on health care services (p<0.05).
Being male, those who were taking services from government health facilities and working in private company were
more satisfied with health care services (p<0.05). Overall, the patients utilizing health care services appeared to be
satisfied, however, sustainable health care delivery system need to be enhanced.
