Challenges in the online learning of economics

Online education has become a popular channel for students to pursue their
studies not only in developed countries but also in developing countries. This
trend is growing impressively but it also brings about some challenges. This
study attempts to identify the key challenges faced by students in the online
learning of economics. For this purpose, survey data of one hundred and thirty
two students from the economics department of Virtual University of Pakistan
was collected and then analysed using Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences. The main factors which are examined in the study are course
contents, learning management system, communication skills, student-teacher
communication gap and drawing of graphs. The findings enable us to propose
solutions to overcome the problems of online learning of economics, which can
be helpful for both universities and students to improve the learning of
economics subjects.
